Welcome

Welcome to Luc and Rob's blog as we cycle 4325 miles in 83 days on 2 bikes for RedR!

In May we start cycling in the Atlantic coastal town of Williamsburg (Virginia). Hopefully we will reach the Pacific Ocean at Florence, Oregon. We will be cycling around 60 miles a day across Virginia, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Oregon... and climbing 11,500 feet crossing the Rocky Mountains! We plan to use this blog to share photos and news of our adventure...

Contrary to what would seem sensible, we are not cyclists... Luc only got a bike last July and neither of us have ever done anything even remotely close to this before. However we fancied seeing another side of America - the homesteads, small towns and open roads.

So, having figured out what we were doing, we mentioned it to a few of our friends and family. Apart from the alarmed looks, the question "what charity are you doing it for?" came up alot. This forced a quick rethink. We hadn't planned to but if anyone is keen to show their support, then we would encourage you to donate to a very worthwhile cause - RedR at www.justgiving.com/bikeamerica

RedR are a fantastic international disaster relief charity who we have supported for years. Their work saves and rebuilds the lives of people affected by disasters worldwide by ensuring that the right people, with the right skills are available to respond. Each year millions of people around the world are affected by natural disaster and conflict. RedR rebuilds lives in times of disaster by training, supporting and providing aid workers to relief programmes across the world.

We hope to raise a pound a mile... but whatever you can spare will help us reach this target, so thank you very much.

That's all for now...

Luc and Rob.
